Littering was commonplace in the 1950's as people now had automobiles and a new highway system to travel and had not yet understood that that little sack of trash they tossed out the window would add up as millions just like them were doing the same. I was in middle school in 1959 and my uncle owned a couple of drive -in restaurants. He paid me 25 cents to go and pick up the trash from his parking lot each morning before school. I got 50 cents for Saturday and Sunday because in those days people would eat in their cars and then just toss the trash out the window before driving away. By the mid sixties, the anti littering campaign had educated all but 13% of the population, so it was no longer necessary to clean up each morning. However, today we are importing people who are taking us back to those glorious littering days of the 50's.

We used to have this, and we let it get away. I wish they'd have shown how important faith was, during this time. On Sunday, everyone went to church. People went, even in the 60s. On Saturday's Jewish went to Temple, and Catholic's went to daily Mass. We had all different religions, but formed cohesive neighborhoods.

come on folks, this is a pleasant and well-made PR film, nothing more. Using the same approach, they'd make NYC look wonderful today, too. Back then, crime was on the rise, winters had smog from heating, summers had smog from car exhausts, the air quality was generally poor. Few people had air conditioning and summers were hard to bear. Women couldn't walk down a street alone without getting wolf whistled, you couldn't join a social club if you were Jewish or black, and you couldn't buy a house in most neighborhoods if you were black, as well. And cops were corrupt -- if they wanted to prove you were the perp, they were likely to work on you until you confessed (unless you were of good standing, or wealthy). Let's not overdo it with the nostalgia, please

All of those people were actually happy! They liked what they did and where they lived - and they didn't have loads of money and they were genuinely happy! Lessons to be learned here! (Alas, the happy people and the happy neighborhoods got pushed out for more expensive high rise residentials... that now sit half empty and unhappy.)

We have but this election to turn our country back. Please, pay attention to the Socialist Democrats of which Bernie Sanders said he is part of. Socialism has no place here in this great country of ours. I am especially touched by the 8 - 9 pm calling on election eve to keep your porch light on as was done back when this first aired in 1952. How I wish we could keep election day as the only day to vote. It's ridiculous to have early and drop box, mail in elections like we do.
